LED Pool Lights Buying Guide

Generally, pool lights aren’t too hard to install. For the most part they are pretty self explanatory, but some of the poorly made ones can be difficult to install. Fortunately, none of the ones we’ve reviewed here fall into that category and are relatively easy to install. However, not all lights are compatible with all fixtures. Fortunately, we highlighted most of these issues, but it is something to really watch out for before purchasing a light. Some lights we’ve reviewed require no installation other than batteries, as they are floating pool lights which makes them very easy to “install”, and move around as you need them.

Lights have 1 job, and  1 job only: to illuminate an area so that people can see better. Brightness, how strong the light is, matters since you want to know how much of an area it will light up. Most of the lights we’ve reviewed are sufficiently bright, but there are a few that are great for those who really want a powerful light. A couple lights in particular have actually received complaints for being too bright. While we don’t think there is such a thing as a light that is too bright, you don’t always need the brightest one anyway. For most people all of the lights will be sufficiently bright.

LED Pool Light

Many people don’t think about it, but LED swimming pool lights can have different features. The most common is having different LED color lights. It’s not ideal for everyone, but pool owners with young kids or plan to have kids will definitely want to consider having a light capable of of different colors. It makes night swimming fun and adds another dimension which kids really enjoy.Another feature that some people enjoy is dimming. It’s not available in all lights, but being able to directly control the brightness is a great feature to have if you want to set the mood and have the option to change the environment, especially using a remote control.

Having the lights on cost money and you want to make sure that the light you purchase is able to effectively convert power to light. An inefficient LED pool light bulb won’t break the bank, but it doesn’t hurt to do the research to save a few bucks a month. Of course, there are environmental benefits as well if that matters.Like with most things that use power, lights will turn some of that energy into heat. A light bulb that heats up a lot will end up being less efficient than a lightbulb  that is able to  convert more of the same energy into light.

Product Life

Nobody likes to buy anything that dies immediately upon its first use! Lights are no exception, and you want to make sure that the lights you decide to purchase will last long enough to reliably light your pool.It wasn’t a huge focus on our reviews since LED lights tend to last a long time (easily a few years and more depending on use). However, we have mentioned ones that we thought lasted particularly long so if this is really important to you (it shouldn’t be) then make sure to look for those.

3. Intex LED Pool Wall Light, 110-120V

Intex’s LED Pool Wall Light is a top led pool light  that Intex has released for power and features. This LED light has enough power to replace a 50 watt halogen light and this pool wall light sticks to the sidewall and transfers power via the pod. What this means is that pool wall lightis built to last longer and provide more illumination while using less power. There’s also no need to create an opening on your pool because the Intex has magnetic properties.

The magnetic properties of the light means you can attach it anywhere on your pool’s wall. The Intex is also compact so you can move the light anywhere you want. Note that this pool light can only be used on your pool’s soft wall side.

The Intex has a couple of other convenient features built in. The inner light floats in the water, so if it gets disconnected from the main power source you can restore it quickly. These lights also don’t require batteries to run.

The Intex pool wall light combines convenience with functionality. Built for above ground pools, these lights provide a good deal of illumination. They’re also cheaper to use than other lights since they don’t have batteries. When you combine the energy saving features of LED with this, the savings are substantial.

The magnetic technology works well as it really sticks to the surface. The fact that it’s not installed means you can pick it up and place the light somewhere else if necessary. The bundled power cord is 23 feet long and it also comes with a 120v plug.

Conclusion: This is a good pool light that makes installation super easy! Just plug in some batteries and you can stick it anywhere on your pool wall. It’s affordable and efficient – you can’t go wrong purchasing this light unless you have a plastic, above ground pool.

Things We Liked

  • Bulb is well designed to last
  • Light is vivid and bright
  • Low power consumption

Things We Didn’t Like

  • Doesn’t come with a switch

4. Intex Floating LED Pool Light, Battery Powered

The Intex LED light for swimming pool has a two hour auto shutoff feature so even if you forget to turn it off, the light goes off, conserving the batteries. It is a floating pool light, and while it looks delicate, made from solid materials, making it hands down one of the best best floating pool lightsThere are three light modes: floodlight, flashing color light and the third is a combination of the three. The light is designed for above ground pools (maximum 18 feet).

The Intex light measures 6.6 x 4.9 x 6.6 inches so it’s easy to install and transport. Note that these lights need four AAA batteries, but they’re not included.

Battery lifespan depends on several factors such as how long you use them and the quality of the batteries. On the average, those 4 batteries can last up to 12 nights.

LED pool light reviews have given the Intex generally favorable feedback. This isn’t the brightest pool light we have seen. But for floating pool lights reviews it should suffice for entertainment purposes.

Since these pool lights don’t need installation, you just have to install the batteries and let the lights float. A single light is good enough for a 16 foot swimming pool. However your pool would look better with at least two of these lights floating around.

Floating lights have earned a reputation for being poorly made, but the Intex lights hold up well. These Intex lights are designed for creating mood more than illumination, and they do a good job of it.

The floodlight mode works best when it lights the middle of the pool. The second mode, colored flashing lights, is for party purposes, but makes it seem like there is a lot going on. The third mode takes the best the first two modes have to offer for an interesting fusion.

Conclusion: If you’re looking for a fun, whimsical pool light then Intex’s Floating LED Light is a great choice. It’s not as bright or as dependable as most wall pool lights, but it will light up your pool and.
