You're finally looking to either replace your old pool cleaner or buy a new one to finally save the headache of dealing with a poolman or cleaning it yourself. Fortunately, you stumbled upon this detailed and honest review where we hold nothing back. And let's start with a 1 wentence summary.
The Pentair Kreepy Krauly Legend is one of the best inground pool cleaners - second only to the Polaris Vac-Sweep 360. You can check out the full list here.
Although there are other good pressure pool vacuums I highly recommend the Pentair Kreepy Krauly Legend - especially if you are looking for an awesome inground pool cleaner.
Overall I rated it at a 4.7 out of 5 which is pretty close to perfect (I have never given a 5.0). If you're looking for a solid inground pool cleaner with a near perfect clean and will last for several years then look no further.

In Depth Review
Initial Set Up
The Pentair Kreepy Krauly Legend is an average to set up if you have already installed a couple of cleaners before. If this is your first time you may have some trouble and you should take a look at the video we provide because it could be a little tricky.
If you have installed a lot before this one then looking at the manual for 5-10 minutes should be enough, but the video is still very helpful.
If you may have noticed in this video, the Pentair Kreepy Krauly Legend comes with its own booster pump. This is rare for a pressure pool cleaner so even if you have weak PSI in your pool pump then this is a great cleaner for you.
However, pumps aren't technically necessary if you have 30 or more PSI required to get pressure pool vacuums working function. If you do not have 30 or more PSI then you can still get an awesome, dependable clean from this cleaner.
One of the great things about it coming out of the box is that it comes with a large debris bag (similar to the size of the Polaris 3900 Sport Pressure Pool Cleaner)to hold what it picked up from the pool. Some people think they need to order an extra one but you should not waste your money because it comes with one already!
Overall, it isn't the easier to set up, but it isn't the hardest either. The attached video is very helpful and if you follow alongside it closely then the installation shouldn't be more than an hour.
Cleaning Ability: Types of Debris
This pressure pool cleaner is great for a variety of reasons and being able to handle all types of debris is a big one.
A lot of other products we have tried aren't able to get all 3 types of debris as advertised and can usually either EFFECTIVELY clean
1) Just large debris
2)small and medium debris
However, this is where the Pentair Kreepy Krauly Legend is different.
The Pentair Kreepy Krauly Legend is also great at handling small and medium debris including fine dirt and pesky algae. It has a powerful enough vacuum to get even the smallest items in your pool like sand.
Don't leave your pool looking like this one:
With a large throat intake the Legend is easily able to pick up large debris such as sticks and large leaves which is pretty normal for most pressure pool cleaners . The Legend excels at this with an extra large throat and big debris bag so it doesn't get stuck or require you to frequently empty out the bag.
It will truly get all of the large debris fairly easily and even tricky things such as pine needles and small rocks.
This is because the extra pressure from the booster pump helps give more cleaning power so if you're looking for a very thorough clean then this little guy will get the job done for you!
Overall, you can expect this pressure side pool cleaner to give your pool an amazing, pristine clean. Because of its ability to get all sorts of debris you won't have to worry about large leaves in your pool, or about fine sand on the pool floor because this cleaner takes care of it all!
Cleaning Ability: Pool Shapes, Sizes, Materials
Being able to clean the different types of pools is one of the best things about pressure pool cleaners for several reasons.
Because they use wheels they are able to easily move throughout the entire pool. Unlike suction pool cleaners these ones don't get stuck on lights or hung up on some trickier areas. They are able to just drive along throughout the pool with ease.
This not on enables them to keep cleaning on their own without assistance, but helps give all types of pools a better clean - even really steep ones. They are able to move fast and effectively which means they get great pool coverage.
Of course the fact that they have wheels means nothing if there isn't pressure to take advantage of which is what helps get around and suck the debris into the bag.
Because it uses wheels it can easily navigate small and large pools with ease. Some cleaners aren't able to transition well from the deep end back to the shallow end but the Pentair Kreepy Krauly Legend has no problem with it.
Check out this hilarious (and cheesy video) to get a better look at it:
Because it uses wheels it is great for cleaning pools of various materials whether your pool is made of concrete, fiberglass, or vinyl. It is easily able to also navigate various pool shapes, but sometimes struggles with really tight corners.
This is really the only (small) problem about pressure pool cleaners - they struggle to turn tight corners because of the wheel system which goes to show that no system is perfect! However, this Pentair product was still able to reach the same place it missed on the tight corner by approaching it from another angle which goes to show how dependable it is.
It may struggle a bit with corners, but it surprisingly clans the walls very well. This is because of the front wheel drive and treaded tires that provide a lot of traction so it doesn't fall off.
Additionally, as it was mentioned in the video above, the 4 wheel design ensures that the cleaner doesn't tip over when cleaning the floor and the walls. It can be annoying having to pick up the cleaners in the middle of the clean because you want to be able to count on your pool cleaner and you can with this one.
The Kreepy Krauly Legend may not be able to get around tight corners or clean the steps that well, but it gets the job done. With a thorough clean and complete coverage you can count on this product to give you what you want - a sparking pool.
This pool cleaner typically lasts between 5-7 years. It might require a little maintenance (up to the tune of an extra $200 on parts) but compared to other cleaners that is not a lot of money and it lasts a long time.
If it needs replacements during the warranty they should be covered so you can make sure you have a smooth clean.
Product Life Rating:
With a 1 year warranty it is pretty average for a cleaner. It'd be nice if they gave some of the industry's best of 2 years. For a better warranty consider the Polaris Vac Sweep 360.
Like we said, 1 year is pretty average so this isn't a make or break factor to get this cleaner. You can always purchase additional coverage and warranty through Amazon, but unless you have a track record of your cleaners dying early then we don't recommend that.
Full List of Pros and Cons
Pros: doesn't tip over, continuous movement, great pool coverage, gets all types of debris, doesn't require booster pump, easily transitions deep end to shallow end, cleans walls effectively, large debris bag, effective for all types of pools
Cons: doesn't clean steps, a little pricier than other pressure pool cleaners, hard to navigate tight corners
It doesn't get better than the Pentair Kreepy Krauly Legend Inground pool cleaner. With its ability to clean any pool effectively you can count on this cleaner to get the job done.
Whether it is fine debris like sand, or large debris like pine cone needles no debris stands a chance against the powerful suction of this.
As a automatic pool cleaner it requires almost no maintenance once it is set up in the pool. It doesn't tip over or get stuck, and only requires some debris bag emptying every now and then because it is so big.
It is slightly more expensive than some other pressure pool cleaners, but when you are investing into a product that is going to save you a lot of time and headache then the extra money is worth it. Buy quality, not quantity.
It's easily worth it because it also lasts a lot longer than other cleaners. Where some last 2-3 years this can easily last 5-7 years of dependable cleaning.
Save money if you are using a pool man, or save hundreds of hours of time if you're doing it yourself. What are you waiting for?
