They are much less complicated than their pressure-side counterparts and cheaper than their robotic counter parts. and more susceptible to problems, for example, low flow rates. They are more suited to screened pools and pools that are not very dirty.

The Pentair Kreepy Krauly Sand Shark is a pretty decent equipment and does most of what it promises, it cleans faster and more efficiently than other random pool cleaners, it is durable and provides maximum coverage while cleaning.
The Kreepy Krauly Sand Shark connects to a skimmer or a suction line. While the cleaner might look huge and a bit complex in its construction, the installation is one of the easiest we have encountered when using suction side cleaners and is much easier than the Hayward Navigator Pro.
This suction cleaner stands out from its colleagues in how it tries to combine the intelligence of expensive robotic models to a more simple product. By intelligence of the robotic models, we are referring to the SmartTrac programming which allows it to maneuver around corners and obstacles in the pool with ease and speed while cleaning with astonishing accuracy.
How it works.
The SmartTrac programming technology is quite an innovation for a suction based equipment. It almost puts it at a level with its robotic counterparts, The speed and efficiency with which it cleans your pool is also worth noting, although it requires a little push now and then, it can still be left alone to do its work.
The Pentair Kreepy Krauly SandShark GW7900 is altogether a quality product and will leave your pool clear and clean.
While this Pentair suction cleaner has gotten more intelligent, it does have its drawbacks. One of such is on monitoring this cleaner when it works. Since it moves around corners and obstacles by itself, you can't leave it to its vices as you would need to help out once a while when it gets stuck or jammed at a corner.
Another problem with this cleaner is the filtration bag. This is a common problem with most suction cleaners, so it's not unique to the Pentair Sand Shark. Since it works with the suction from the pool pump, the debris it pulls out usually ends up in the filter basket which means you have to empty the basket often.
Also, the suction opening could get choked with leaves and bigger debris or acorns which will prevent the Sand Shark from cleaning up other dirt. This is not much of a problem if you monitor the unit, as you can solve the problem by turning it off and clearing the blockage.
With its large build and large coverage, one would think it can work for any pool, but nothing can be further from the truth. The Sand Shark is suitable for cleaning inground pools. It will clean the surfaces and the pool floors, as long as the design of the floor doesn't involve a lot of obstacles on the floor that could hinder its movement.
One of the features of this suction cleaner is the incredible width that it has. At 12 inches, which is about 30% much more than other suction side cleaners, it can cover a large area in a short time and is likely to pick up more debris and won't miss many spots.
It's a great suction pool cleaner to use especially for large inground pools. Not too expensive neither is it cheap. Its large width area means it can cover more grounds faster and pick up more debris due to its dual cleaning ability. The primary concern is the monitoring.
The Kreepy Krauly Sand Shark is intelligent, but its creative movement could lead it to an unchartered territory where it could get stuck as well as the suction opening could get blocked by bigger debris or acorns. It’s a cleaner that works well and delivers all that it promises, but it would require your presence.
