Polaris Vac-Sweep Review | A Cheap Pressure Pool Cleaner

The Polaris Vac-Sweep 65 is an automatic,  top pressure pool cleaner suitable for above ground vinyl or fiberglass pools. It can clean pools that are up to five feet deep no matter the shape or size of the pool. The Polaris is easy to install and to operate, the product is built to last and will serve you for a long time.

It's a good budget buy, but lacks the cleaning power of Pentair's Kreepy Krauly Legend.

Why You Need Automatic Pool Cleaners

For those who own pools - be it an above ground or fiberglass pool, irrespective of the size, you do know the troubles you have to go through and the cost you have to incur on a weekly basis to the pool boy.

Automatic pool cleaners do the work of your pool boy way better than you can imagine and they also cost less. There are different types of automatic pool cleaners and they differ based on their range, pool type and mode of operation.

There are 3 types: suction side automatic pool cleaners, pressure side cleaners like this one, and robotic pool cleaners.

Pressure Vs Robotic Vs Suction Pool Cleaners

The Polaris Vac-Sweep 65 6-130-00 is a pressure side pool cleaner. It works by utilizing the pressure side port of a pool to help create pressure from water going in and coming out of the port.

Pressure side cleaners, also called booster pump works by being propelled using the water that is pushed back to the pool. It rolls around on wheels and uses the pressure of the water either with a separate booster pump or your pool pump to help propel them around the swimming pool.

The pressure cleaner comes with its hydraulic power plant within, and they tend to a better job at cleaning. It has a hose attachment that allows this cleaner to distribute filtered throughout your pool.

Most pressure side cleaners require a dedicated booster pump to be installed for use with the unit.

The pressure cleaner uses the return water in your pool to create a vortex to pull out the debris from your pool into a bag attached to the top of the cleaner. The booster pump is needed to push water through the cleaner to force and keep the debris in the bag.

Suction-side pool cleaners on the other hand create a vacuum by using the suction of your pool filter. It is most suited for pools that have lots of dirts but little debris. They are cheaper and can work on smaller pools as well.

Robotic pool cleaners have their own filtration system in built and it works independently of the pool filter. They are much faster and are well suited to larger pools that needs cleaning.

How it works

The Polaris Vac-Sweep is a pressure-side cleaner that works by attaching to the pools filtration system and distributing clean filtered water around the pool while collecting debris through a large intake throat and depositing it in its debris bag.

It sweeps, scrubs and vacuums the floors of the pool. It can also be used as a manual pool cleaner should you choose to operate the vacuum system of the Polaris.

The unit is relatively fast, cleaning up your pool in about two to three hours. During this time, it cleans the entire pool efficiently and effectively leaving it clear and filtered.

To install the Vac-Sweep, you screw the universal wall fitting into the opening of the return line. Adjust the length of the float hose, attach it to the return line and extend it to the farthest part of the pool.

The length of the sweep hose should be measured and adjusted so it can extend to the deepest part of the swimming pool.

Add the hose connector to the end of the sweep hose and attach both the jet sweep assembly and the filter bag.

As with most pressure-side cleaners, the Polaris requires a booster pump to function; the pump delivers a consistent flow rate to the unit.

It works with a scheduled timer and operates only a few hours a day which saves energy and reduces wear. The Polaris Vac-Sweep also makes the unit work faster and much more powerful than a low-pressure cleaner.

Ease of Use

Installing the Polaris Vac Sweep 65 is easy and quick especially when you follow the instructions laid out in the installation manual

The Polaris Vac-Sweep is designed for people who have swimming pools that have been neglected and require deep cleaning

Other Features

It's not as feature set as XtremepowerUS's Pressure Pool Cleaner but the Polaris Vac Sweep works well with most vinyl and fiberglass pools even those with uneven bottoms. It comes with a patented jet sweep assembly which blows water on the wall of the pool to remove the debris lodged in the corners of the pool water.

Pressure-side pool cleaners work with filter bags which is used to remove the debris before it reaches your filtration pump. This pressure side cleaner from Polaris also features a unique filter bag that can eliminate debris including large amounts of twigs and pebbles before it gets into your pump preserving the useful life of your filtration system.

The Polaris Vac-Sweep cleans your pool effectively as any pressure side cleaner would but not quite as well. It can work with above ground vinyl and fiberglass pools, even pools with uneven ground.

It does have its own share of problems as well as it will miss fine dirt and dust. Another issue we noticed with this unit is that it requires frequent replacement of its parts.

The Polaris is, however, convenient to use and it will provide you the option switching to either automatic or manual setting. Buying the Polaris Vac-Sweep is a matter of what you feel is important to you - the size of your pool, ease of use, the amount of debris or having a lightweight pressure side cleaner for your pool.
