The G3 is a solid pool cleaner that is very affordable. It may not be as good as the Hayward Poolvergnuegen, but what can you expect for an item that is just a little more than half the cost?
Well, with this Zodiac Baracuda G3 Review, you'll know exactly what to expect - the good, the bad, the everything.
Warning: Like even the best pressure side pool cleaners, the Zodiac isn't really useful for above ground pools. If you have an above ground pool then you will want to take a look at some great robotic pool cleaners.
Zodiac makes a number of pool vacuums and cleaners, but they really outdid themselves with the Baracuda G3. They continue to improve the quality of the products and have recently become one of the best pool supply brands.
In Depth Review
Initial Set Up
Setting up the Baracuda G3 W03000 was surprisingly easy. Out of the box, it comes with a number of replacement parts as well as 12 hose lengths which is easily able to handle 35 foot pools or more.
Fortunately, some companies like to skimp out on packaging so that the pool cleaner isn't in any protective foam and can get damaged because of its 19 lb base weight. However, in the package the Baracuda was well protected and, like we expected, it came out perfectly.
Unfortunately, the instructions are pretty lackluster. It's better to read online if you have trouble, but it is actually very easy to get set up so they aren't necessary.
While it definitely needs a suction side port it's surprisingly effective without a pool pressure pump. Of course having a pressure pump will help, but it definitely isn't necessary to get a good clean from the Baracuda.

Cleaning Ability: Types of Debris
The Baracuda G3 was surprisingly effective at cleaning debris. We had mild expectations about its cleaning ability despite stellar reviews.
While it was only average about cleaning larger debris, it really devoured small to medium sized debris. It was easily able to pick up sand and small leaves. However, for larger leaves you definitely want to consider getting a leaf canister.
You can check out the one we recommend here. If you don't get one just expect to have to use a pool skimmer to manually remove larger leaves.
Unfortunately, there is no way for the Baracuda to reliably get larger sticks, so if you have a
What gave it such a great cleaning power was the proprietary FlowKeeper Valve automatically that optimizes water flow to ensure peak cleaning performance - even with weaker pumps.
Cleaning Ability: Pool Shapes, Sizes, Materials
The Baracdua G3 Pool Cleaner accomplished what we look for in all of the top pool cleaners - able to effectively clean all sorts of pool shapes, sizes, and materials. One of the reasons it is able to handle so many different pool shapes is because of its ability to clean around tight corners, similar to the Baracuda Mx8.
This is a feature that many underwater cleaners lack, but this product is good enough on the corners so that you won't have to clean the (potentially many) corners of your pool.
It's also pretty good at not getting stuck like other suction side pool cleaners. Some of them get hung up on lights, covers, fittings, and pool covers, but the G3 is pretty good on these potential problems.
It's not perfect - you'll have to manually move it because it gets stuck sometimes. It also doesn't clean the steps as advertised which is a bit of a bummer. However, a light sweep of the steps and the fact that it getting stuck isn't a regular occurrence which means minimal work from you.
Fortunately, it provided a solid good, consistent clean. Was it the best a pool cleaner can give you? No. But as a low priced item it will do a surprisingly good job that will just require a little bit of watching.
Don't leave it alone for weeks at a time, but you won't have to look over it every of every day like you have to do for some other pool vacuums.
Even though it is one of the more affordable products on the market, it has one of the longest "lives". Many people report 6+ years of use with very little replacement. Spending a couple hundred bucks for that much saved time is always a good deal.
The Zodiac Baracuda G3 comes in just a couple of parts so there is very little things to break and it is less fragile than other cleaners that are composed of many individual, cheap parts.
While we felt the parts were of an average plastic (and felt that this was a good area for improvement), it doesn't require a lot of parts replacement and maintenance.
It might require a replacement every 2-3 years, but even with that in mind the overall cost is still low for such a quality, long lasting cleaner. However, if you want a really high quality cleaner check out the Hayward Poolvernuegen.
Product Life Rating:
It was hard to understand the warranty on this product. It's either 2 years or 90 days which is a HUGE difference. We never had to call to find out ourselves, so if this is a big factor we recommend making a call (though you can pay for an extra 1 or 2 years of warranty).
Bought individual parts come with a 90 day warranty which is okay. At least you know you can replace the parts with a peace of mind.
Full List of Pros and Cons
Pros: long life, effective clean, great pool coverage, handles corners well, great for a variety of pools, very easy to set up, effectively cleans small and medium sized debris, CHEAP
Cons: occasionally gets stuck, not great on pool steps, can get stuck going in circles, weak instructions
Zodiac Baracuda G3 Review: Conclusion
Even though it's not the best suction side pool cleaner out there, the Baracuda G3 offers the best clean for its value. It's a great suction pool cleaner - especially if you want an inground pool cleaner.
Despite the more affordable price than other cleaners, it is able to provide a great pool clean for all sorts of pools - regardless of shape, size, and material. With an impressive ability to hug tight corners and get small to medium debris, it won't disappoint.
It truly lives up to its name as an automatic pool cleaner because it requires minimal maintenance from the owner and has a long shelf life.
With the best clean for its price, you can't go wrong with this pool vacuum unless you have a lot of large debris that it won't be able to handle. The only other case you wouldn't want this cleaner is to get a small upgrade at a much higher cost - something that may be worth it for those with a higher budget.
